Next Saturday is the Chinese New Year??s Parade in San Francisco and it??s a great time to be in San Francisco. On our San Francisco Food Tour of Chinatown and North Beach\Little Italy it??s a really fun time. With all the festivities in Chinatown leading up to the parade, we??ll get to see all of the lion and dragon dancing troupes getting ready. It takes quite a bit of acrobatic skills and coordination for each one of them, so walking around Chinatown, we always run into the various troupes practicing for the parade. Up on Stockton, there are lots special things being sold for Chinese New Year??s, from special foods to figurines to honor the Year of the Pig, which is this year. As, of course, everyone is a festive mood for the Chinese New Year??s. The parade itself usually starts on Kearny, near Portsmouth Square, goes down Kearny to Post, turns around Powell, then Geary and then to Market Street to about Montgomery. It starts about 5:15. If you??re planning to go, go early, as it tends to have a very large crowds watching the parade. On our San Francisco Food Tours, we have a great time taking it all in. The Chinese New Year??s Parade is one of those events that the entire city takes in and enjoys. It??s a great and fun to be in San Francisco.
